Wedding traditions differ from country to country, but I find that every couple has at least one family, cultural or religious wedding tradition that they would like to include in their special day. Today I’m sharing with you what I love about photographing traditional Chinese tea ceremonies.
As a photographer, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing and photographing numerous Chinese tea ceremonies, each brimming with cultural richness and heartfelt significance.
Whilst not being of Chinese descent myself, I approach every cultural ceremony with the utmost respect and sensitivity, recognising the profound meaning it holds for the couples and families involved.
Cultural Awareness
While some couples may opt for a tea ceremony to honour their heritage, others may choose a different approach or a more modern adaptation of this tradition. As your photographer, I focus on the unique traditions and rituals that bring both your families together.
Symbolism
At the heart of this time-honoured ceremony is the deep symbolism and beautiful meaning behind every action, gift and blessing. The act of serving tea to elders symbolises respect and gratitude, while the exchange of tea between the couple signifies their union and commitment to each other. In my photographs, I strive to capture not just the gestures, but the emotions and connections that you want to preserve for a lifetime. From the intricate designs of the teapot and teacups to the carefully selected auspicious dates and symbolic jewellery, each detail tells a story of love, family, and heritage.
Photographing the Details
