a Marquee wedding at home

K&A hosted their marquee wedding wedding at home on their private estate in Essex, for a celebration that was both relaxed and intimate and phenomenal in design.

With huge lawns, leading to a lake fringed by trees, this was the perfect space for not only multiple marquees but glamping teepees so that the guests could stay on site, keeping the party going into the night.

The ceremony marquee was filled by an epic floral frame, combining two interlocked rings of pink roses which also made a beautiful backdrop for portraits and group photographs, sheltered from the heat of the day. K & A had opted for a celebrant led wedding, and for their son to be a ring bearer setting the tone for a relaxed and joyful day, centred around family. One hundred confetti canons at the end of the ceremony signalled that the party was very much starting.

Chilled aperol cocktails were mixed by the Bar District for guests before the Function Band, always a favourite of mine, led the way for dancing before dinner. A half transparent marquee set a lovely light space for a golden bar that reflected shards of sunshine, and a huge floral hoop with garlands above long tables immaculately designed by Lucy Meehan Events. The cake table, another floral showstopper of a platform of rose petals was set to the side, holding a beautiful understated cake with a simple pretty pink ribbon. We aren’t always blessed with days this full of sunshine in the UK and the design of this marquee made the best of the glorious weather whilst also providing some much needed shade. The white backdrop was beautiful for photographs too, so flattering for even lighting and gentle shadows.

The couple had requested their children be very much part of their portraits and so during the cocktail hour, we took a walk in the sunshine, for completely informal and relaxed family shots. For sessions like these, I am always conscious of allowing families to be themselves, and the photographs to reflect their personalities. Later in the day, the relaxed setting of this wedding meant that the couple and I were able to make the most of the golden light, having complete freedom as to when we took the evening portraits. This really is the ideal situation for relaxed romantic evening portraits as I can judge the very best light and minimise the time a couple is away from their guests. As the sun lowered, we had some truly beautiful light, and I was able to capture the bride and groom alone. K had removed the beautiful overskirt from her Millanova dress by this time and it was the perfect time for showing off the sparkles and beads of the fitted part of the dress.

With such a beautifully exposed site, and the bright Summer sunshine, the darkness arrived quite late in the day but I wanted to make sure that I captured some night time party shots for the couple and at this time the transparent marquee came alive with festoon lights for the full party atmosphere.
