a City Chic Wedding at 116 Pall Mall

C&J travelled from Arizona to host their city chic wedding at 116 Pall Mall, a Georgian, Grade 1 listed building in the heart of London. As London venues go, it is difficult to get more central, or more chic than this, which gave us great flexibility for all kinds of photographs throughout the wedding day.

The bride and her 7 bridesmaids got ready in a light filled apartment just to the South of Buckingham Palace and after a first look with her parents (I am always a fan of this for some gorgeously heartfelt photographs) we headed out into Belgravia for some portraits. I am always happy to suggest locations for portraits and will always do a scout out in the days before a shoot because over my 20+ years of living in London, I am very aware that what could be the perfect photo op one day can easily be obscured by roadworks or an event the next. Having a number of locations and a route pre-prepared for our taxi we captured some beautiful shots of the girls against the elegant white stucco terraces that this part of the city is famous for.

The groom and groomsmen were photographed by my wonderful second photographer, at the Goring Hotel, giving both the bride and groom relaxed time with their friends before the ceremony, and plenty of natural photographs. Lucy Meehan, who planned this wedding beautifully, had suggested prioritising photographs at this early point in the day so as to help the couple maximise their time enjoying the wedding reception later on which was brilliant advice. We used the beautiful frontage of this hotel for both sets of formal group photographs.

116 Pall Mall had been decorated with stunning floral arrangements by Pinstripes and Peonies for the couple’s ceremony.White peonies, roses and delphiniums, with layers of green foliage provided an understated and contemporary aisle amongst the elaborate splendour of the Waterloo Room. The grand staircase and balcony, with it’s stunning chandelier provided not only a wow factor entrance for guests and the bridal party but also the most beautiful backdrop for couples portraits following the ceremony.

The guests enjoyed a lovely relaxed reception in the private gardens of the venue, before a beautiful wedding breakfast by Searcy’s in the Carlton Room. Long tables were laid with gold cutlery, and richly decorated with green and white floral arrangements. Illustrations of London landmarks were the perfect table decorations for this UK Destination wedding. I loved the personal touch of the inclusion of the couples dog who was back at home in Arizona but made a sweet appearance between tiers on the wedding cake, and personally printed napkins.

Between first dances and speeches the couple and I took a short visit outside, to Waterloo Place for some final portraits. With the Summer sun setting and a hazy pink sky we captured some romantic images against iconic London backdrops and a row of Union Jack flags.
