UK Destination wedding

An Intimate wedding
at butley priory, suffolk

Sierra & Colin had planned their beautiful UK destination wedding at Butley Priory (where I am a recommended supplier), before the pandemic hit. A chance of luxurious time together with their closest family and friends, in the English countryside. Little did they know that they had planned so well that when the wedding industry was turned upside down by restrictions, and gradually allowed to reopen, their original date might not have been possible, but everything else about their schedule was.

With its luxurious holiday cottages; Butley Abbey Farmhouse and Butley Priory Cottage close by, this glorious former Augustinian Monastery, nestled amongst woodland, is ideal for couples planning a multi-day wedding. The groomsmen played croquet on the lawn in the morning whilst the bridesmaids got ready together in the beautiful bridal suite, complete with roll-top bath. The double height landing on the stairs was the ideal location for Sierra to meet her Father for an emotional first-look in her bridal gown. Tears flowed freely, the first time of many this day and I was struck by how much it meant to this couple and their families to just be together for this longed for celebration.

The light got hazy into the late afternoon on this glorious September day and we took portraits under the floral arch and amongst the romantic gardens. The soothing white interiors of the Priory were the perfect space for seeking shade and also a beautiful backdrop for the jewel colours of the floral arrangements. Afternoon spilled into evening and as the sun set, the guests enjoyed an informal banquet, and many beautiful heartfelt speeches.

Sometimes couples get lucky with the weather on their wedding day, but at this intimate wedding at Butley Priory, I almost felt the late Summer warmth was brought by Sierra and Colin and their own relaxed destination vibes.
