A first look &
a winter wedding at Kew Gardens

This Winter wedding at Kew Gardens, London began with a First Look. I adore a First Look, the chance for you to have the very emotional experience of seeing each other on your wedding day, just the two of you. There’s no need to try to keep the emotions in check and less pressure than when all your friends and family are there watching one of you walk down the aisle. There is time to really take each other in, to share in the excitement, to give each other an embrace and to remind yourselves that the day is truly about the two of you. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to capture some portraits before the ceremony which is especially helpful for Winter weddings, when the light fades earlier in the day.

Kew Gardens, in London is a dream for a Winter Wedding. Lush green foliage, warm spaces and no need to worry about the weather inside the stupendous glass houses. There are architectural backdrops – seen here in the Temperate House, and the light is just beautiful. I photographed a large proportion of this wedding on medium format film, creating luminous skin tones.

The soft cream and green styling of the florals for the ceremony in the Nash Conservatory, included sustainable dried and faux foliage and flowers throughout the aisle decorations and the moongate. It is possible to have a glorious textured floral arrangement even in December in the UK. I loved the personal touches that this couple included, the fun facts and quotes displayed on the pastel stationery (handmade by the bride), and the cute bubble tea served to their guests.
