A Studio Maternity Session on film

This studio maternity session took place in East London when T was 30 weeks into her pregnancy. It also happened to be in the middle of a heatwave, so we were sure to plan with lots of cool shade, and natural light, rather than warm studio lights.

We chose a studio with lovely neutral backdrops so that we could try a good variety of poses and outfits, and collaborated on a Pinterest board for the look and feel of the shoot which I find more important for studio sessions, which are often blank canvases, and less of an intimate setting than an in-home session.

T had booked the session just for herself, to capture this very special moment in her life with her bump, a moment of transition. We aimed for fun, playful movement to reflect the excitement of welcoming her new daughter, together with some more gentle and softly intimate poses; a relationship at it’s very beginning.

Photographed on a combination of 35mm and medium format film, with just a couple of digital added in, over 2 hours to allow for outfit changes and breaks.
