A brympton house Wedding
on film

Z & M chose the beautiful Brympton House, a grade I listed manor house near Yeovil in Somerset for their wedding. Working in sustainable fashion journalism, the bride had a clear sense of the aesthetic for their wedding, and film photography was an essential element.

The timeless charm of analogue photography captures colours so vividly, but also retains a luminosity for gorgeous skin tones. It is also extremely sensitive to light, more so than digital photography and thereby retains detail in both bright light but also deep shadows. There is a dreamy soft romance to film photography which is perfectly suited to weddings and an authenticity to the colours which will mean these photographs never look dated.

The bride chose Vivienne Westwood for her gown. Always an iconic designer, Westwood will forever be associated with historic tailoring, sustainability and imagination; a heritage British brand perfectly at home in this glorious setting. The rest of the styling was elegant with a relaxed undone vibe. The grooms suit was a pale grey Summery tone and the bride’s hair in loose flowing waves. A concession to luxury glamour came in the form of the most stunning gold sandals from Prada. Florals from the in-house team were in a classic white and green palette, with hints of yellow which complemented the gentle cream interiors of the Great Hall and Ballroom interiors at Brympton House.

Cocktail hour took place on the stunning terrace which also formed a backdrop for evening portraits in the last rays of golden hour. For earlier portraits with the couples three adorable dogs, we used the orchard and more wild areas of the grounds, which perfectly suited the relaxed romantic aesthetic. Special mention must also go to the beautiful cake created by MonAnnie, with its delicate floral decoration and the luxurious deserts that were brought to life by Molecular Magic.

Using a combination of 35mm and medium format film, I loved capturing all these details in a relaxed and naturalistic style. Shooting an entire wedding solely on analogue film is such a treat as a photographer and if you would like to know a little more about why you might choose a film photographer for your wedding, you might be interested in reading this blog post.
