I’m so excited to bring you the first of two blog posts from a wedding inspiration photo shoot that I created at the beautiful Bignor Park in West Sussex. I was inspired by the character of Titania, the Queen of the Fairies from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. I’ve always been intrigued by her character, on the one hand ethereal and romantic and on the other, independent and strong. She seems a thoroughly modern woman to me; one who can’t be defined by one single personality trait.
In this first part of the shoot, styled by Jenna Hewitt, I explored her soft and romantic side, ideally suited to my fine art, light and airy photography.
Couples choosing a Bignor Park wedding have so many lovely locations to feature on their day. The estate has beautiful wild areas, with long grass, a dew pond and a Grecian style temple, perfect for the setting of an ethereal fairy. Our bride wore a dreamy, unstructured and floaty gown by Chantel Lauren, the underskirt of which is painted with a watercolour effect. I loved the loose, carefree elegance it gave our Titania, as she moved through the long grass.
Loose flowing hair was carefully tousled by Agata Julia, for a natural and knotty appearance and to show off the beautiful hairpins from Tilly Thomas Lux. Jewellery was from Sarah Brown whose rings are all inspired by nature. The dew pond became a wonderful setting for an elopement style wedding breakfast, styled with a foliage runner from Rebecca Avery Flowers, soft blue napkins from Kate Cullen and a combination of antique bronzed candlesticks and vessels.
For a second look, Agata wound a length of natural silk around Titania’s forehead, creating a Grecian style turban effect and continued it through a loose pretty braid. The Grecian temple was styled with simple foliage streamers, for a continuation of the natural, woodland setting.
Gentle, textured place name settings were created by Miss Modern Calligraphy who wrote her beautiful calligraphy directly on linen, matching the hand drawn map that she created for the invitation suite and a beautiful calligraphy love letter. I have seen many couples send heartfelt love notes to their loved ones on the day of their weddings, and this would be the perfect style in which to make a gift that would be kept forever.
The soft, pastel colour palette continued into the bridal bouquet, featuring white peonies and eryngium as well as foraged umbellifers and grasses for lots of beautiful texture. Other pastel blues that featured were from a gorgeous antique chair – the perfect throne for Queen Titania, in the middle of the wild fields of this Bignor Park Wedding shoot.
If you are planning to celebrate your wedding at the gorgeous Bignor Park (where I am so happy to be a recommended supplier) or if you are inspired to use fine art storytelling to create beautiful details for your wedding, I would love to hear from you.
With thanks to this wonderful team…
